The Oratory of San Pietro is a religious building located in Imperia, on the Porto Maurizio hill, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Built in the 18th century, it is distinguished by its richly decorated Baroque facade and slender bell-tower. Over the centuries, exposure to weather, particularly wind and humidity, caused significant deterioration of the plaster and stucco decorative elements. The restoration aimed to preserve both the aesthetic and structural integrity of the building.
PROJECT
The intervention focused on the main facade and the bell-tower, aiming to consolidate the structural supports, restore the plaster, and reconstruct decorative stucco elements using materials compatible with the historic substrates. PROMPT Vicat natural cement was selected for its durability in marine environments and its perfect compatibility with historic supports.
Implementation
The restoration began with an in-depth study, evaluating the condition of the plaster and the cohesion of materials. The surfaces were then carefully cleaned to remove salt deposits, dust, and fragile fragments, revealing the original texture and preparing the supports for the new applications.
Damaged supports were consolidated with care, ensuring overall stability before the repair of the plaster and decorative elements. The plaster was repaired or rebuilt using compatible mortars, restoring its original texture and color, while deteriorated or missing stucco elements were faithfully reconstructed according to historical models, respecting the Baroque style.
The work concluded with a finishing and inspection phase, harmonizing the overall appearance of the facade. The interventions were deliberately discreet to preserve the authenticity of the Oratory and restore its original splendor without altering the historic patina.
